Career-best season for Christian Pulisic – but still unhappy? Italian media questions Milan star’s true feelings despite success

Despite Christian Pulisic’s personal success, Milan’s campaign has descended into chaos, and now, fresh reports from Italy suggest the American may not be as content as his performances suggest.

Christian Pulisic’s second season at Milan was supposed to mark a renaissance, both for the player and the club. The 26-year-old winger arrived from Chelsea in summer 2023 with hopes of re-establishing himself as a regular starter in Europe—and that he did. In fact, Pulisic has had a career-best season statistically, consistently delivering goals, assists, and work rate. But despite his personal success, Milan’s 2024-25 campaign has descended into chaos, and now, fresh reports from Italy suggest the American may not be as content as his performances suggest.

The most recent blow came at the Stadio Olimpico, where Milan lost 1-0 to Bologna in the Coppa Italia final, missing out on both a trophy and an automatic Europa League spot. It was a chance to salvage an otherwise disastrous season, and having defeated Roma and Inter on their way to the final, many believed it would be Milan’s night. But Dan Ndoye’s 53rd-minute goal sealed their fate, and Pulisic, usually so involved, was held to zero shots and zero chances created in 88 minutes.

Despite the gloom, the USMNT star has emerged as the Rossoneri’s most consistent attacking threat. He’s racked up nine assists—just one behind league leader Romelu Lukaku—and delivered crucial goals throughout the campaign. In a recent league fixture against the Rossoblu at San Siro, the American scored the winning goal and assisted Santi Gimenez’s equalizer in a 3-1 comeback win. But his loyalty to the club may now be tested.

Discontent brewing behind the scenes?

The scenario at Milan is making Pulisic rather unhappy, according to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, with concerns about the club’s lack of direction and growing financial uncertainty. After the team’s exit from the Champions League in February at the hands of Feyenoord and now the Coppa Italia disappointment, the Rossoneri sit eighth in Serie A, needing wins against Roma and Monza—and help from other results—to have any chance of European qualification.

“Pulisic might pause to reflect on things, seeking guarantees about the club’s ambitions,” the report added. While an extension with a pay raise is reportedly close, a summer exit has not been ruled out, especially with interest from several European clubs.

The San Siro outfit is expected to undertake a major rebuild this summer, with an enormous hole in their accounts. As a result, Tijjani Reijnders, another standout this season, is already being linked with a surprising move to Manchester City. If Milan receives similar offers for Pulisic, they may be tempted – if Tuttosport is to be believed.
