‘Impressed me’: William Saliba says he never expected ‘scary’ Arsenal player to be this good

Arsenal have fallen short in the Premier League and the Champions League this season, but it hasn’t all been doom and gloom for the Gunners.

Indeed, the north London club have had a few bright sparks this season.

Declan Rice earned massive praise for his performances against Real Madrid recently, while Myles Lewis-Skelly has been hugely impressive in his debut campaign.

Speaking to Stadium Astro, William Saliba has been discussing Myles Lewis-Skelly’s breakout year, and he says that he’s been truly shocked by how good this young man is.

Indeed, Saliba says he really didn’t expect Lewis-Skelly to be as good as he has proven to be this season, claiming that he’s been so impressed by the youngster.

William Saliba hails Myles Lewis-Skelly

Saliba spoke highly of his teammate, claiming that he never expected him to be this good.

Bukayo Saka recently called Lewis-Skelly a ‘scary’ talent, and there’s plenty of reason to be excited about this young man.

“No, he’s really good, like even last season when he came with us to train. I didn’t expect him to be that good, for his first season he’s impressed me a lot. The way he plays, the way he turns, he’s never scared in any context. Even the way he talks outside the pitch, it’s like ‘this kid is the truth.’,” Saliba said.

Arsenal’s academy stars

Saliba says he never expected Lewis-Skelly to be this good, but perhaps he should’ve seen this coming.

Indeed, Arsenal’s academy continuously produces top talents, and Lewis-Skelly was earmarked for some time as a top prospect.

Of course, Lewis-Skelly isn’t the only star to have come out of the Hale End system in recent years.

Ethan Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly could well be the future spine of this Arsenal team, while there’s also another young talent coming through.

Max Dowman looks like a future star too, and if Arsenal can harness his talent, the Gunners could well be set in the midfield for the next 10 or 15 years.

It’s certainly an exciting time for Arsenal and their academy.
