‘Liverpool are convinced’: Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool think they’re about to make a real bargain signing

4 Min Read

Liverpool aren’t resting on their laurels after becoming Premier League champions.

Indeed, while Arne Slot may have been in Ibiza this week, the hard work hasn’t stopped at Anfield.

Liverpool’s transfer team are hard at work, and there are a few deals now in the pipeline.

Florian Wirtz has been linked to Liverpool this week, while, Jeremie Frimpong is close to joining Liverpool.

Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Liverpool’s links to Jeremie Frimpong, and according to the journalist, Liverpool believe this could be a great signing.

How Liverpool view Jeremie Frimpong

Romano shared what he knows about Liverpool’s internal view of Frimpong.

The Reds believe Frimpong is a player who can improve the defensive side of his game, and they think he has massive potential on that front.

On top of that, the Reds believe that Frimpong is already worth more than his release clause, so they think they’re getting a bargain here.

“My understanding is that internally in the coaching staff, so Arne Slot, but also other people at Liverpool believe that Jeremie Frimpong is not just an excellent player on the offensive point of view, a player who can provide assists, score goals, we saw that at Bayer Leverkusen, but also with the potential to improve for more physical football, like the English one, also to defend more,” Romano said.

“So it’s going to be a different way of playing, but Liverpool are convinced that the potential of Jeremie Frimpong is massive and is a player worth probably more than the release clause in their view. That’s why Liverpool are ready to make this investment.”

Liverpool’s release clause bargains

Liverpool are set to sign Frimpong for just £35m due to the player’s release clause, and this isn’t the first time in recent years we’ve seen the Reds employ this transfer strategy.

Indeed, Liverpool do love signing a player who has a release clause, and they’ve managed to get some great deals in recent times by making these sorts of moves.

Liverpool signings made via release clauses Fee
Ibrahima Konate £35m
Alexis Mac Allister £35m
Dominik Szobsozlai £60m

Alexis Mac Allister has been incredible for Liverpool at just £35m.

Meanwhile, Dominik Szoboszlai has been well worth the £60m the Reds paid for him, while Ibrahima Konate has more than justified his fee too.

Release clauses are clearly a good way to find value in the transfer market, and this is an area that Liverpool continue to capitalise on and exploit to their own advantage.

The Reds could be set for another very exciting summer transfer window.
