Having already wrapped up the Premier League title, the last few weeks have been celebratory ones for the Reds.
With domestic duties taken care of, attention at Anfield has now shifted towards planning for next season.
Jeremie Frimpong is close to joining Liverpool as a replacement for the Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Liverpool are also looking to strengthen their attack, with Newcastle’s Alexander Isak among some of the big players linked with a move.
Speaking of new signings, it’s easy to forget that some big names were once close to joining the club. One such case is PSG star Ousmane Dembele.
Ousmane Dembele admits he is a Liverpool fan
Dembele was heavily linked with Liverpool back in 2020 when he was at Barcelona. However, despite strong interest from the Merseyside club, a deal never materialised.
While he may not have been seen as a massive miss back then due to his form and injury concerns, his recent resurgence and standout displays at PSG, it’s become a classic case of “what could have been” for the Reds.
Adding to that sense of regret, the 28-year-old has now revealed he is actually a Liverpool fan.
In a short video for the French national team’s Instagram, the 28-year-old named his top three favourite players of all time. He included Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, placing him alongside global icons Lionel Messi and David Beckham before admitting his support for the Reds.
He said: “Number one is Lionel Messi. I’m a fan of Barcelona, so Lionel Messi is a big legend. In number two, David Beckham, this is the first football jersey that I got. In number three, Steven Gerrard. I was a fan of Liverpool.”
Ousmane Dembele’s recent form at PSG
Dembele has been nothing short of ‘magnificent‘ this season, particularly in 2025.
The World Cup winner has racked up an outstanding 33 goals and 13 assists across all competitions, showcasing the kind of form that has reignited his status among Europe’s elite.
He was also on target against Liverpool, scoring the goal at Anfield that eventually helped his side knock the Reds out of the Champions League quarter-finals.
His form has made him a genuine contender for this year’s Ballon d’Or. With PSG set to face Inter Milan in the Champions League final, he has a golden opportunity to further strengthen his case.
While the likes of Mohamed Salah and Raphinha may currently be ahead in the Ballon d’Or race, a match-winning performance on the biggest stage could very well tip the scales in Dembele’s favour.
