In a recent interview with Leeds United News, journalist Graeme Bailey stated that West Ham United are facing stiff competition for Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters. Bailey said,
“I’m told no decision just yet. Leeds have had contact, but as we know they’re one of many clubs to be in touch with him. West Ham, Spurs, Everton… there’s loads. And some foreign clubs are lurking too. Can Leeds get him? Of course. But from what I can make out it’s going to be tough.”
Walker-Peters’ Impressive Season In The Premier League
Walker-Peters has put in a series of impressive performances on the right side of Southampton‘s defence during this Premier League campaign. The 28-year-old has picked up a couple of assists in 35 matches for the Saints this season across all fronts.
The English talent has been a positive influence at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 2.3 clearances, 0.6 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even been tidy when distributing the ball from the right flank after completing 90.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
West Ham United Are Facing Stiff Competition For Walker-Peters: Is He Worth The Fight?
Walker-Peters is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half.
The English sensation usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and is a good dribbler with the ball as well. He has also got the eye to set up a few promising chances for his teammates from the right wing.
We can expect Walker-Peters to enhance the quality of West Ham head coach Graham Potter’s backline. He is good enough to challenge for regular first-team football at the London Stadium next season.
At 28, Walker-Peters has got plenty of experience in Premier League football and is currently playing in his prime. Therefore, he would be well worth the fight, so Potter would be wise to go all out to bring him to the East London club in this summer transfer window.
