Barcelona aims to sign Liverpool star for over $80 million

One of the biggest advantages of signing Luis Díaz is his relatively affordable salary—around €3.5 million per season. That number is not only manageable for Barcelona but also lower than what players like Nico Williams earn.

Luis Díaz has long been a player admired by Barcelona, but his price tag was nearly prohibitive when the club was deeply entangled in Financial Fair Play restrictions.

Things are beginning to shift. Barcelona is gradually emerging from its financial crisis and is on track to balance its numbers for next season, assuming the board’s projections hold true. Sporting director Deco is a big fan of Luis Díaz, the 28-year-old Colombian winger who currently plays for Liverpool and is under contract until 2027.

Attacking reinforcement

His price is estimated to be around €80 million. If Barça meets Fair Play requirements this summer, the plan is to make a qualitative leap and go after him as the main attacking reinforcement. Luis Díaz is reportedly intrigued by the idea of playing in La Liga, and Barcelona currently holds great appeal for players due to its project and future potential.

His current salary is relatively modest—about €3.5 million per season—an amount well within Barcelona’s reach and even improvable. It’s even lower than, for example, Nico Williams’ salary at Athletic Bilbao, which makes it easier to fit him into Barça’s financial structure.

Deco’s top priority

When it comes to market priorities, Deco gave a clear hint in his latest interview that aligns perfectly with the Colombian’s profile:
“If we can improve, we always try, but the key is to secure what we already have for the coming years. We feel very dependent on Raphinha and Lamine. Maybe we need players with a similar profile—solutions for them. The squad is fairly balanced, and we also have a strong foundation in the youth system.”

“I don’t think anyone in this squad, given the current atmosphere and energy, wants to leave. We’ve already renewed most of our players; now it’s about taking care of the ones who are here. Last year I said we couldn’t afford to lose anyone, and I think the same applies now,” Deco told ESPN.
