The 35-year-old has spent three years at the Gtech Community Stadium after joining the club on a free transfer in 2022.

Mee has made 67 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with five goals in his 60 Premier League matches for West London club.

However, Mee has struggled for playing time in the current campaign, having been restricted to just seven Premier League appearances this term.

The defender has ultimately found himself behind Nathan Collins, Sepp van den Berg, Kristoffer Ajer and Ethan Pinnock in the pecking order.

Mee announces Brentford departure

In an announcement of Sunday’s clash with Fulham, Mee has confirmed that he will leave Brentford when his contract expires at the end of June.

“Sunday will be my last game at the Gtech,” Mee told the club’s official website. “I’d like to thank the Bees fans for the amazing support you’ve given me during these last three years – it’s really meant a lot.

“This is a unique club full of fantastic people and I’m really proud and grateful to have had the pleasure to play here.

“I still have a lot more to give on the pitch and I’ll certainly be looking to do that somewhere next season and beyond. For now, let’s hope we can have a strong finish to the season.”

What did Frank say about Mee’s exit?

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank paid tribute to the veteran centre-back, describing him as an “invaluable” member of the first-team squad.

“Ben has been fantastic for us. His first season was outstanding, he was a big part of us finishing ninth in the Premier League,” Frank said.

“He has not had as many minutes in the two seasons since then, but he has always performed when called upon and been invaluable off the pitch.

“He has helped us build a strong culture and shared his knowledge with the younger players about how to be a top defender. Ben is a top pro and a top person, he will be missed. We wish him all the best for the future.”

Midfielder Josh Dasilva is the only other member of the first-team squad who is out of contract at the end of the season, although there is an option of a one-year extension.
