Chelsea have been adjusting their attacking plans for months. The lack of consistency in Nicolas Jackson’s performances has led to internal doubts about his reliability as the only attacking anchorman. Although the club have explored a number of alternatives, some negotiations have not progressed as expected.

Liam Delap’s name was on the table, but Manchester United seem to have the upper hand on that front. Now, Chelsea’s interest is turning to another figure who has shone in the Premier League and whose price tag is quite high: Joao Pedro.

Chelsea Are Ready To Pay £100 Million For Joao Pedro

Brighton’s Brazilian striker has become one of the most talked-about names on the market. According to Fichajes, Chelsea would be willing to pay £100 million to secure his signature. The player has proven his ability in a variety of attacking roles and has 17 goal-scoring appearances to his name this season.

Despite the high price tag, the London club could make a strong bid for him. Brighton will not make his departure easy, but with pressure from the likes of Liverpool and even Arsenal on their radar, the Blues look set to make a decisive move. Still, the total cost could create some internal tensions at Stamford Bridge.

This potential signing is as risky as it is interesting. Joao Pedro offers mobility, reading the game, and finishing from the second line. His technique fits well with a more associative style of play, something that could interest Enzo Maresca. The new coach wants the team to control the ball and attack intelligently. In that model, Pedro can perform both as a false nine and starting from deeper areas. He brings dynamism, something Chelsea have lacked this season.

Are They Right With Their Decision?

However, spending £100 million for him seems excessive. Although Pedro has had some good moments, he has yet to prove himself as a relentless striker week in, week out. Pedro is talented, but the club would pay an amount that is normally reserved for players with top figures on a sustained basis. Besides, there are names on the market with a better price-performance ratio. Chelsea would be risking a lot for a player who has yet to fully explode.

Maresca could make him a key player, yes, but the margin for error is minimal. If he fails, the critics will not be forgiving. From another perspective, if they get it right, they will be ahead of their rivals with a player who has room to grow. The decision will not be easy, and everything will depend on the final reading they make of his real potential.
