TBR Football understands that Liverpool have been really impressed by Federico Chiesa’s behaviour behind the scenes and are open to him staying at Anfield next season.

Arne Slot thinks Federico Chiesa can still make an impact at LiverpoolFederico Chiesa remains likely to leave Liverpool

Although Chiesa could look for a move back to Italy given the fact he’s made just five Premier League appearances this term in a Liverpool shirt.

The Italian forward has now added a Premier League winners’ medal to his collection, but with the World Cup next year, there is an acceptance that he may need to leave the Reds in search of more game time.

But despite his lack of minutes, his attitude and behaviour has remained exemplary and that is why Arne Slot is open to keeping him in the squad next season should he be willing to stay.

Arne Slot thinks Federico Chiesa can still make an impact at Liverpool

Arne Slot believes that Federico Chiesa is capable of playing a role in Liverpool next season and could make an impact on the team, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

Slot has been urged not to sell Chiesa and the Dutch manager looks set to listen to that advice by being ready to keep him as an option for next season.

Chiesa, who’s been linked to Fenerbahce, has struggled to stay fit for large parts of the season and hence why his minutes have been so limited. But that’s also the reason Liverpool managed to sign Chiesa for just £11 million last summer.

Bailey said: “Chiesa is an interesting one, I think we come back to the World Cup cycle here. Liverpool really like him as a player, as a person — they love that he hasn’t been complaining about his minutes, we haven’t seen him speaking in the Italian media for example.

“We haven’t really seen him kicking up a fuss, which I think sums him up as a person and not just a footballer. And from what I’m told, Liverpool aren’t forcing him out the door — they think he can make an impact.”

Federico Chiesa remains likely to leave Liverpool

However, Chiesa remains likely to return to Serie A this summer, with several clubs in Italy still appreciating him as a player.

The winger will be eager to be a part of Italy’s squad at the 2026 World Cup and that would require him to be playing regular football, which is unlikely to happen at Anfield.

“That said, they’re not going to stand in his way, they know he’s in a World Cup year and he’s liked within Italy, he’s got opportunities [to leave]. Can he play three, four or five Premier League games and get into the Italy World Cup squad? I think that’s a push.

“I think we’ll see Chiesa move back to Italy this summer, that’s the inclination I’m getting and I think he is one of those players who’s been massively impacted by the World Cup cycle.”
