‘I’d be embarrassed’ – Nottingham Forest star miraculously recovers after leaving pitch on golf trolley

Nottingham Forest defender Murillo should be ’embarrassed’ following a staggering injury recovery.

This is the view of former Arsenal player Perry Groves, who couldn’t believe his eyes after seeing Murillo shake off what appeared to be a nasty ankle injury at West Ham.

The Brazilian had to be carted back to the dressing room at half time at the London Stadium with Morato undergoing an intense warm-up during the break seemingly in preparation to replace Murillo.

But, much to the shock of just about everyone, Murillo was amongst the Forest contingent that re-emerged following the break as Morato remained on the bench.

The appearance of Murillo left talkSPORT reporter Ian Abrahams, who shared the clip of the defender being taken away on the back of the cart, flabbergasted.

“We are not putting ourselves forward to writing the Lancet (the medical journal) anytime soon,” Abrahams said.

“At half time we saw Murillo go off on a golf trolley and all but written off his career with an ankle injury, 15 minutes later he’s out on the pitch. He’s absolutely fine.”

Groves was equally perplexed and joked Mr Miyagi had gone into the Forest dressing room at half time and worked his magic on Murillo.

“I said he was off, he was in distress, he looked like he’s done his ankle, looked like he could be out for about three or four months,” Groves said.

“So I think Mr Miyagi from the Karate Kid has actually run down the tunnel with his wax on wax off, and got his ankle going.

“If you come off on a golf cart and you can’t actually walk, even if it was alright to play in the second I wouldn’t come back out, I’d be embarrassed.

“I don’t know how but that is one of the biggest recoveries that I think I’ve seen.”

The miraculous recovery of Murillo comes hot on the heels of the medical fiasco surrounding Forest teammate Taiwo Awoniyi.

Awoniyi suffered a ruptured intestine when he clattered into the post late in Forest’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City last Sunday.

The Nigerian somehow returned to action after he received treatment for several minutes from Forest’s medical team where he subsequently complete the match.

Things took a far more sinister turn with Awoniyi being placed into an induced coma after surgery on his abdominal.

Following the full-time whistle, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis stormed onto the field and appeared to direct his frustrations at the result towards manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, a club statement clarified Marinakis’ anger was meant for the medical staff who somehow allowed Awoniyi to continue.

“When he saw our player clearly in discomfort it became increasingly difficult for him to stay on the sidelines,” the statement read.

“It was instinctive, human, and a reflection of just how much this team and its people mean to him. He would do the same again if such an unfortunate event were ever to reoccur.

“There was no confrontation, with Nuno or others, either on the pitch or inside the stadium.

“There was only shared frustration between all of us that the medical team should never have allowed the player to continue.”
