Leeds United have announced that they have released eleven players in a brutal clear out ahead of their return to the Premier League.

In a highly dramatic day of football in the Championship, Leeds United secured promotion to the Premier League with a last-minute goal to win the league title.

Since then, there has been significant speculation on which players will remain at the club for their return to the top flight, and who could make way for reinforcements that are expected to join during the summer transfer window.

But now, it appears that the club has made their decisions on several players, as an official announcement confirmed that Leeds have decided to part ways with eleven players following the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

In a statement posted to the club website, Leeds United confirmed that former Atletico Madrid midfielder Joshua Guilavogui would be leaving the club seven months after joining in October.

The 34-year-old is said to have played an important role in Leeds’ promotion, making 18 appearances during his short stint at the club.

Despite this, the club decided against offering him a new deal following the expiration of his contract this month.

But Guilavogui isn’t the only player that Leeds are letting go ahead of the summer, as loanees Manor Solomon and Joe Rothwell will return to parent clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth.

Solomon scored 10 goals in 39 games for Leeds this season, including their title winning goal in the 91st minute of their match with Plymouth Argyle, and will no doubt be confident that he can fight for a starting place at Spurs next season.

Rothwell also played a key role for Leeds during his loan spell, making 39 appearances in midfield.

In the club statement, Leeds also confirmed the departures of Harry Christy, Cian Coleman, Connor Ferguson, Max McFadden, Amari Miller, Kris Moore, Joe Richards, and Joe Snowdon.

Leeds remain in discussions Sam Byram and Junior Firpo, with the deals of both star players set to expire at the end of June.

Following the end of the Championship season, several reports claimed that Leeds were uncertain also about the future of manager Daniel Farke.

However, Leeds chair Paraag Marathe addressed the speculation in a statement to BBC Radio Leeds saying: “I’m not one to respond because some random gossip paper wants to say something.

“I’m not going to make comments based on rumours and gossip. But now, today is that day and I want to tell you all that I’m very excited to run it back with Daniel.

“The past two seasons the three promoted teams came straight back down but we have something they don’t have: we have Daniel Farke.”
