Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres is emerging as one of the most sought-after players ahead of the summer transfer window.
A number of top clubs are reportedly interested in the prolific Swedish forward, who has left clubs across Europe stunned with his outrageous goalscoring form.
Manchester United have been linked with Gyokeres and were initially considered favourites to land Gyokeres, particularly after the appointment of Ruben Amorim, under whom the striker has previously thrived in Portugal.
However, Arsenal are now strongly in the mix – and recent reports suggest they’ve taken the lead in the race to sign him.
TBR Football has even reported that Arsenal have held talks with Gyokeres.
Viktor Gyokeres on his future amid links with Arsenal
Gyokeres was on target yet again for Sporting CP on Saturday night, helping his side win the Portuguese league.
After the final whistle, he was seen in tears – a moment that many interpreted as a possible farewell.
When asked about his future following the match, the 26-year-old said: “My next club? We can’t predict the future. We never know what happens. I’m focused now on celebrating this title and trying to win the Taça de Portugal.”
Viktor Gyokeres’ incredible goalscoring form
Gyokeres began his career in Sweden before earning a move to Brighton in 2018.
While he struggled for regular minutes on the south coast, loan spells at St. Pauli and Swansea helped develop his game.
It was at Coventry City, however, where he truly made his name, scoring 43 goals and providing 17 assists in 116 games.
His 2023 move to Sporting CP has taken him to another level. Gyokeres has racked up an astonishing 53 goals and 13 assists in just 51 games this season, including 39 league goals, powering Sporting to back-to-back league titles.
His incredible numbers have positioned him at the top of the European Golden Boot race, ahead of notable players like Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah.
Since joining the Portuguese giants, he has now scored 96 goals and provided 28 assists in 101 appearances.
Signing a new striker is a priority for Arsenal, and securing someone as prolific as Gyokeres could be the missing piece that helps them go all the way in the Premier League next season.
