Despite interest from Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Manchester United over the past two years, it is Liverpool who have won the race for Frimpong.

And it now appears that Arne Slot played a big role in getting the deal done.

According to GiveMeSport, a call between Slot and Frimpong proved to be vital in convincing the 24-year-old to make the move to Anfield.

During the conversation, Liverpool presented their long-term project and made it clear that Frimpong was seen as a key figure in their future plans.

The report also states that the club told him that he was their first-choice signing in his position almost a year before the deal was done.

The Merseyside giants have been after Frimpong since last summer and even approached the club regarding a potential transfer.

However, Xabi Alonso reportedly persuaded Frimpong to remain at Bayer Leverkusen for one more season.

But the player is said to have already been sold on a move to Liverpool, with reports in January suggesting that Frimpong had agreed to join Liverpool at the end of the season.

Even as a youngster, Frimpong almost joined Liverpool before ultimately ending up in Manchester City’s academy at the age of nine.

In many ways, it seems Frimpong’s move to Merseyside was always meant to be.
