Olise loves to let his play speak on his behalf, but Radio Müller couldn’t help himself.
Last summer, Bayern Munich spent €100M to acquire two Premier League players, João Palhinha and Michael Olise. Both players were stars at midtable clubs but wanted to compete for trophies. During the title celebration at the Allianz Arena, both new players wore ear-to-ear smiles the entire day.
João Palhinha’s first season at Bayern will be remembered by a big injury and losing the position battle to Leon Goretzka and Aleksandar Pavlović.
Michael Olise immediately supplanted mercurial Leroy Sané on the right wing. Olise finished the season with double-digit goals and assists for the first time in his career and has a decent argument for Bundesliga Player of the Year.
After the 4-0 finale at Hoffenheim, Thomas Müller lauded Olise’s inaugural season in Munich (via @iMiaSanMia): “It’s impressive to see how consistently [Olise] does what he does, repeating his performances, especially when you consider it is his first season at a big club.”
Bayern is working hard to find a world class left winger to complement Olise next season. At the moment, all signs point to Jamal Musiala sliding over to make room for Florian Wirtz at the number ten position. That would be the best attacking line Bayern has showcased since the glory years of Franck Ribéry, Müller, and Arjen Robben.
