The door is open for Kim to leave Munich this summer, especially if Bayern bring in center backs in the transfer window.

Before Bayern Munich’s season has ended, there has already been a lot of activity and proposed activity for the summer transfer window. Eric Dier has already confirmed he’s leaving for AS Monaco, Bayern are in a battle with several other clubs for the signature of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, Leroy Sané is at a bit of a contract standstill at the moment, and there is still a lot of other activity the German Rekordmeister are anticipating, with a desire to get business done prior to the FIFA Club World Cup kicking off next month.

In one of the latest twists of the Bayern summer transfer tale, the club has reportedly told center back Kim Min-jae that he is open to leave the club this summer, but that was technically before Dier agreed on his move to Monaco (via @iMiaSanMia). Even with Dier’s move to the Ligue 1 outfit, it is still expected that Bayern will wind up bringing in Jonathan Tah from Leverkusen, so that leaves to door open for a summer exit for Kim, who’s tenure in Munich thus far has not exactly been covered in glory.

In the event that Bayern are able to sell Kim, they would be looking for a fee in the range of €30-35m for him, which is considerably less than the €50m they paid to sign him from Napoli. Per Transfermarkt, his current market value is €45m. It would be an overall loss on the player from the club’s perspective, but the South Korean international has had his fair share of struggles at Bayern ever since joining the club and has been in and out of favor with both Thomas Tuchel and Vincent Kompany.

Overall, Kim has made a total of 79 appearances across all competitions for Bayern, adding 4 goals and 2 assists along the way. He struggled to work his way back into the squad in the winter of 2024 after his exploits with South Korea is the Asian Cup and he has also had his injury struggles, most recently with his Achilles tendon. All things considered, a move away from Bayern might be the best thing for the defender, but it remains to be seen what his future will hold beyond this summer.
