Uli Hoeneß rips into inconsistencies on Wirtz rumors: “You’ve been writing nonsense for weeks about him going to Manchester City, even though he was at Liverpool”

This guy is something else.

Bayern Munich’s hot pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen superstar Florian Wirtz is no surprise. But there are other clubs in him and reporters fell all over themselves when photos were revealed of Wirtz and his family landing in an airport in England. As a result, many stories were written of Wirtz’s journey to Manchester in order to talk to Manchester City. But there is just one problem.

The Wirtz family did not land in Manchester.

Instead, the photos were taken in an airport in Blackpool, closer to Liverpool than Manchester. Reports then emerged from BILD that he flew to Manchester afterwards, but there were no photos to confirm this. More reports emerged of potential Liverpool FC interest and that Wirtz met with Liverpool officials. Then reports emerged that he did not. Other possible corrections to the story that could explain this oversight were added in subsequent reports.

In the middle of the maelstrom, many people have been left unimpressed. Chief among them is Bayern honorary president Hoeneß, who ripped into the inconsistent reporting: “What am I supposed to tell you now,” he told Bild reporter Heiko Niederrer after Bayern’s final game of the season against TSG Hoffenheim, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “You’ve been writing nonsense for weeks about him going to Manchester City, even though he was at Liverpool. We’ll provide you with facts at some point, not with more speculation.”

Uli Hoeneß is certainly not one to mince his words, is he? He is right, however. We will need to keep an eye out for facts, not speculation, as the scramble to report on a potential Wirtz deal keeps becoming more frenzied.
