It was a long week for everyone…including Harry Kane apparently.
There were a couple of curious omissions from Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany’s starting XI against Hoffenheim — namely Harry Kane and Leroy Sané.
In Sané’s case, you can connect the dots on the events of the last few days (here and here), but for Kane it was a little odd considering how much the Englishman typically plays for the Bavarians.
Before the game, Kompany explained that, well, it was a long week (including the trip to Ibiza) for the first-time trophy winner.
“This is his first title. The week may not have been as optimal for him as I would have hoped. But that’s normal. I want us to start the game perfectly, with the perfect mentality and attitude. Harry had a bit of a difficult week. I don’t want to take any risks and want to make sure we have full energy,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Harry will definitely play a big role today. It’s not like he’ll just sit on the bench and watch.”
Kane and Sané did eventually enter the match in the 61st minute for Thomas Müller and Kingsley Coman respectively. Kane would pick up a goal and an assist during the 4-0 victory.
