With Santos set to face Memphis Depay’s Corinthians, eyebrows were raised when Neymar was absent from the squad list once again.
Santos are set to visit Corinthians at the Neo Quimica Arena for Matchday 9 of the 2025 Brasileirao season in a crucial battle to escape the relegation zone. With the classico expected to be an intense showdown against Memphis Depay‘s side, many fans were surprised to see that Neymar was absent from the squad list.
The club has not issued any recent update regarding Neymar’s condition or a potential return for this match. The reason for his absence, however, is clear: Neymar is still recovering from a left leg injury and was not fit to be included in the traveling squad.
Neymar’s last appearance came on April 16, when he was forced to leave the match in the 34th minute of the first half. Days later, Santos confirmed he had suffered a tear in the semimembranosus muscle of his left thigh—an injury that has continued to sideline him.
Without their biggest star, Santos are struggling in the Brasileirao. The Peixe currently sit 19th in the standings with just one win, two draws, and five losses. Their last victory came five matches ago—a 2–0 win over Atletico Mineiro, the same game in which Neymar sustained his injury.
When will Neymar return to play for Santos?
Since making his highly anticipated return to Santos in February 2025, injuries have plagued Neymar’s comeback. After being sidelined for over two months due to two separate setbacks, the former Barcelona forward has managed to play in only nine matches, recording three goals and three assists.
Although he’ll miss the clash against Corinthians, Neymar appears to be nearing a return. According to Globo Esporte, the 32-year-old has been present at the training ground almost daily, alternating between gym work and light ball training on the pitch under the supervision of the club’s physiotherapy team.
He is expected to be included in the squad for Santos’ upcoming Copa do Brasil match against CRB on Thursday. The match will serve as the second leg following the 1–1 draw on May 1 and could provide a perfect opportunity for Neymar to return to action.
