Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta are set for a very busy summer transfer window, with the Italian director hoping to make a quick impression in North London.
Arsenal appointed Berta earlier this year to replace Edu Gaspar who left his position as sporting director at Arsenal after five years at the football club.
The former Atletico Madrid man joins the Gunners at a crucial time, with the North London club facing the most important transfer window in recent times.
Berta has already agreed a deal for Martin Zubimendi and now he is believed to be working on finally bringing a striker to Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta are ‘very aligned’ at Arsenal
Mikel Arteta has revealed that he feels ‘very aligned’ at Arsenal with the club’s new sporting director Andrea Berta ahead of a busy summer transfer window.
The Spanish manager claims that since speaking to him for the first time, the Italian director has been very clear about what he feels the Gunners’ squad requires, and Arteta is in agreement.
Arsenal’s manager also believes that Berta’s track record of building successful squads and winning silverware speaks for itself and bodes well for the future at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta told Sky Sports: “Since day one, when we were interviewing for that role, he was very clear, ‘this is what we need to go to the next level’. I was very aligned and you can tell with his experience, he’s built some great squads, he’s won major trophies, so someone with that clarity is very, very helpful.”
Mikel Arteta is excited to review Arsenal’s squad
Arteta has also explained why he is so excited to review Arsenal’s squad during the summer transfer window to find where they can improve.
“I think it’s going to be a very exciting summer! First of all, we will review what we have done, finding ways to increase the level of the team, finding big margins where we can still develop our game and our players,” added Arteta.
“Putting all those plans together in the pre-season, then if we don’t have enough in (that area), then we know what we need to recruit to make the difference.”
