Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola has confirmed that Alex Scott will miss Tuesday’s Premier League clash against Manchester City.

Scott was forced off at half time of Bournemouth’s defeat to Aston Villa earlier this month after being caught by Tyrone Mings‘s elbow.

Bournemouth later confirmed that the England Under-21 international had sustained a fractured jaw and would require surgery as a result.

Iraola has now revealed that Scott will not be available for Tuesday’s meeting with Man City at the Etihad Stadium.

Scott may also find it difficult to be ready for Sunday’s game against Leicester City, although there appears to be hope that he could be available to represent England at the European Under-21 Championship.

“With Alex, we really don’t know,” Iraola told reporters in Monday’s pre-match press conference. He has already gone to a place where they design a mask with everything, so he can take the risks.

“He definitely cannot play tomorrow, probably thinking in the Euros, he would have a chance with a mask, and he is positive.”

When pressed further about when Scott could return to action, Iraola said: “I don’t know. Definitely not tomorrow, I think it’s almost impossible he plays Sunday, but I don’t want to rule him out. He tries the mask, but I think it is going to be very difficult.

“He wants to, and he is brave. It’s a good sign because it means he is positive, and we will see. He hasn’t trained, but he at least has a good mood and he’s optimistic.”

Scott is joined on the sidelines by Enes Unal, Ryan Christie, Dango Ouattara and Luis Sinisterra.

Iraola backs Huijsen to succeed at Real Madrid

Bournemouth already know they will lose one key player at the end of the season, after it was recently confirmed that he will join Real Madrid this summer.

Los Blancos activated a £50m release clause in Huijsen’s contract, with the defender set to sign on a five-year deal from June 1.

The Bournemouth boss believes the Spain international has what it takes to succeed at a club of Real Madrid’s stature.

“I have no doubt that he’s ready for this jump,” Iraola said. “Real Madrid is probably the biggest club in the world, or one of the biggest, but I think he has the level.

“Not only on the football side, also the maturity, the confidence in himself to go there and perform. He’ll have a lot of competition to play, but I trust him a lot and I think he’s going to be very good for Real Madrid.”

Huijsen’s current focus will be on helping Bournemouth perform in the last two matches, with the Cherries still in the hunt to secure an eighth-place finish, which could become a European spot depending on Chelsea’s league position and their result in the Conference League final.

Bournemouth are currently sitting in 11th place in the table, but they are only two points adrift of Brentford in eighth position.
