Arne Slot issues Jeremie Frimpong transfer update after Liverpool medical

3 Min Read

Arne Slot refused to give anything away as Liverpool looks to be closing in on the signing of Jeremie Frimpong.

The Bayer Leverkusen right-back has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield over the past week or so, with it now looking as though it could just be a matter of time before his signing is confirmed. Liverpool.com has known about the Reds’ interest in Frimpong for some time, with sporting director Richard Hughes seemingly acting quickly to secure him.

Frimpong is understood to have undergone the first part of his medical already after his release clause at Leverkusen was triggered, and he now looks set to become Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement on Merseyside.

Asked after Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton for an update on the transfer though, Slot wasn’t about to give anything away.

“What do you think?” Slot responded when initially asked, before being pushed further for some form of update.

“I think what we all know is the moment we announce it, that is the moment to talk about it, in general.

“We haven’t announced anything, so no need to talk about it.”

Jeremie Frimpong is understood to have completed the first part of his medical at Liverpool

Despite Slot maintaining his silence on the matter, Frimpong does indeed look set to become Liverpool’s first new signing of the summer.

Liverpool.com understands personal terms have been agreed, with the first part of his medical having been completed on Sunday, with the second section set to take place this week.

Frimpong is expected to head on holiday after that now that the Bundesliga season has come to an end. He could officially become a Liverpool player once the summer transfer window opens on June 1.

And he might not be the only new face heading to Anfield soon. Giorgi Mamardashvili will complete his move from Valencia after a deal was agreed last year, and more business could be forthcoming.

Speculation is growing over Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, with talks said to have advanced as Liverpool looks to thrash out a potential deal.

Liverpool.com says: That sounds like a very veiled attempt from Slot to not give anything away, and yet all but confirming it at the same time.

It seems like it will just be a matter of time before Frimpong is confirmed now – hopefully this week so Slot can talk about it before the end of the season!
