Slot explains midfield selection
Speaking on Monday Night Football a short while ago, Arne Slot confirmed that Dominik Szoboszlai will be playing in a deeper midfield role than usual, with Harvey Elliott occupying Szoboszlai’s usual role as the most advanced player in the midfield three.
“Yes he is,” Slot said when asked if the Hungarian would be playing alongside Gravenberch. “He is playing as an eight, with Ryan as a six, with Harvey a bit more forward. I think Dominik sees his best position as an eight.”
Slot also joked that he would expect a “knock on the door” from Mohamed Salah if he left him out of the XI. “To prevent that from happening I just put him in the team!”
Salah is chasing the record for the most direct goal contributions in a single Premier League season.
He already holds the record in 38-game seasons, with 46, but two more direct goal contributions would also see him move past Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, who set their joint record of 47 in 42-game seasons in the 1990s.
