It’s now becoming increasingly likely that Andrea Berta will sign Viktor Gyokeres to finally end Arsenal’s striker search this summer.
Arsenal’s Premier League campaign essentially ended after their 1-0 win against Newcastle United on Sunday.
Second position in the league is now secured for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta and the club’s focus will now be on this summer’s transfer window.
After full-time at the Emirates Stadium, the likes of Arteta and Declan Rice were all talking about transfers — it’s a crucial summer ahead for the Gunners.
And whilst Berta has been focused on two strikers at Arsenal, Sporting CP’s Gyokeres is emerging as the club’s leading candidate to come in and transform Arteta’s frontline.
Arsenal upping Viktor Gyokeres’ efforts after Alexander Isak blow
That being said, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has now explained the situation further.
This summer’s ‘striker dominoes’ are now falling into place, and with Liverpool best positioned to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, Arsenal are turning all of their focus to Gyokeres.
Speaking to TBR, Bailey said: “In terms of Alexander Isak, I’m told that if he leaves Newcastle, Liverpool are leading the race for him — I think Arsenal have been fairly accepting of that for the last few months.
“Arsenal sources have told me this week that Viktor Gyokeres is getting all the attention at the Emirates now.

“Essentially if something comes up they will assess it, but the focus is on Gyokeres at the moment, Berta feels like he is the one — Arsenal aren’t going out there and saying it but it does feel like that.
“I’m told that Benjamin Sesko’s people are having conversations with other clubs, which they are more than entitled to do.
“We know that Arsenal have done a lot of work on him, but keep an eye on Chelsea when it comes to Sesko.
“All the striker dominoes we’ve been talking about, we sort of know how it is mapping out now.
“I do believe that Gyokeres will end up at Arsenal, most likely and Liam Delap could go to Man United.
“Liverpool and Chelsea will be interesting, Chelsea are open to a project type striker like Sesko. But Liverpool want the finished product, a bit like Arsenal.”
Viktor Gyokeres’ asking price
Fortunately for Arsenal, Gyokeres could be available for as little as £55m this summer, a relatively reasonable figure considering the striker’s goalscoring this season.
Berta loves Gyokeres’ attitude and the striker has seemingly got an excellent relationship with decision-makers at his current club Sporting, too.
Sporting are willing to sell Gyokeres for a reasonable price given how professional he has been behind the scenes this season.
The Swede has scored 53 goals in 51 games across all competitions this season and he looks primed to prove any doubters wrong in the Premier League.
Some Arsenal fans still believe that Gyokeres isn’t the perfect fit for Arteta’s side, in part referencing the step up from the Liga Portugal.
However, Gyokeres’ record should speak for itself, a striker who is ready for the challenge of succeeding for an elite club.
