TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Florian Wirtz has informed Manchester City that he will be joining Bayern Munich this summer, despite a major push from the former Premier League champions to sign the German playmaker.
Manchester City showed strong interest in Florian Wirtz, who has attracted plenty of attention after his sublime performances under Xabi Alonso.
Reports have also linked him with Liverpool, who even opened talks to sign Wirtz
However, Bayern Munich were considered favourites to land him and now it appears that the player has decided to join the Bundesliga giants.
Florian Wirtz makes Bayern Munich decision
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has been informed that Wirtz has made it clear to Manchester City that he will be heading to Bayern Munich, despite a year-long pursuit by the Premier League giants.
Pep Guardiola even personally engaged with the 22-year-old and his representatives in an effort to sway the decision in their favour.
However, Bayern’s strong relationship with the player and his camp, along with their domestic dominance, ultimately proved decisive in convincing Wirtz.
TBR Football understands that there was some late interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid, those approaches did not materialise into anything concrete.
City sources have also confirmed to TBR Football that while they did explore a deal for Wirtz, they were never banking on him arriving.
Their summer transfer strategy was never dependent on the German’s decision and continues as planned.
The prospective signing of the Leverkusen star was always seen as an option on top of their existing summer plans and therefore their plans have remained unchanged despite the failure to land him.
Manchester City have a big summer ahead
Manchester City, who have fallen short of their typically high standards this season, currently sit sixth in the Premier League with 65 points, just one point behind third-placed Newcastle United and with a game in hand.
The final day of the season is set to be huge, as it will determine which two clubs secure qualification for next season’s Champions League, a result that could have major implications.

Champions League qualification is crucial for City, both from a financial perspective and in terms of attracting top-tier talent in the transfer market.
Having already missed out on Florian Wirtz, the club will be keen to move swiftly and secure their primary targets.
TBR Football has reported that Man City have already held talks with Morgan Gibbs-White over a potential move.
Manchester City are also huge admirers of Guimaraes, with Newcastle hoping to get him agreed to a new contract without a release clause.
It remains to be seen how much Guardiola will spend following a rare trophyless campaign, but signs point to City preparing for a big summer in the market.
