Liverpool transfer target Joao Pedro left out of Brighton squad for ‘personal reasons’

Joao Pedro is not in Brighton’s squad to face Liverpool at the American Express Stadium due to “personal reasons”, according to Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler.

The Brazilian forward, who is a nominee for the Premier League’s Young Player of the Year award, missed Brighton’s last three games due to suspension after being sent off in a 4-2 defeat by Brentford on April 19.

Pedro is the subject of speculation linking him with a move away from Brighton this summer, with Liverpool and Arsenal among his possible suitors.

Both clubs are in need of a new striker this summer — Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have managed just 11 league goals between them this season, while Arsenal’s two main strikers, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, have both been missing for several months through injury, and are not natural goalscorers anyway.
