Manchester United have reportedly moved a step closer to the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Red Devils are preparing for their ninth European final, with the club set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.
Ruben Amorim‘s men failed to enjoy a successful warm-up for the clash at San Mames, losing to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Friday night.
It looked as if Man United had taken a shock lead through the volleyed finish of Harry Maguire, however the centre-back was judged offside.
The contest was flipped on its head in the second period, when Marc Cucurella found the net to ensure maximum points for Champions League-chasing Chelsea.
Man United closing in on Cunha?
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are heading towards an announcement of their first signing of the summer.
The report claims that things are moving along nicely in discussions that look to bring Wolves and Brazil star Cunha to the Theatre of Dreams.
It is understood that the 25-year-old has agreed to ‘the project’ at Old Trafford, where the Red Devils are set for their worst-ever Premier League placement.
Personal terms between Cunha and Man United are ‘almost done’, with only finalisation to go before the player will be sure of his salary.
There are some ‘final details’ to be sorted between Wolves and the Red Devils, with Cunha expected to be announced as a signing before the start of next season.
How good is Cunha?
Manchester United will be hoping the answer to that is positively emphatic. Cunha has shown bundles of ability in recent times for Wolves.
The playmaking Brazilian has netted 15 goals and provided six assists for the Black Country outfit across 31 Premier League appearances this term.
Since signing permanently from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in July 2023, Cunha has scored 31 times in 70 competitive matches for Wolves.
