Real Madrid is planning to strengthen its midfield ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup by bringing back 20-year-old Argentine midfielder Nico Paz. The club sold him to Como last summer for €6 million but kept 50% of his rights and a buy-back clause.

Real Madrid is already making moves to strengthen its squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, with a particular focus on reinforcing its defense and midfield. The club is also preparing for a managerial change, with Xabi Alonso expected to take over as head coach. But beyond defensive reinforcements, Los Blancos are also looking to add more depth and talent to the center of the field—and one name at the top of their list is a familiar face: Nico Paz.

The 20-year-old Argentine midfielder, who stands at 6 feet 1 inch, was transferred last summer to Italian side Como, currently managed by former Spanish international Cesc Fàbregas. The deal was worth €6 million and included 50% of the player’s rights, with Real Madrid smartly retaining a buy-back clause in case they wanted to bring him back.

Now, the club is planning to activate that buy-back option, which would cost them €8 million—just €2 million more than they received for his partial rights. The idea is for Nico Paz to join the Real Madrid squad for the Club World Cup, giving him the chance to showcase his growth and talent on the global stage. Once the tournament is over, the club will evaluate his long-term role within the team.

New head coach Xabi Alonso is expected to play a key role in that decision. Alonso, who has built a reputation for developing young players and establishing structured, tactical systems, may see Nico Paz as a valuable addition to his midfield plans.

Nico Paz has seen his value rise significantly since moving to Italy. He’s drawn serious attention from major clubs, including Juventus, and is considered one of the most promising midfield prospects in Serie A. According to Transfermarkt, the Argentine’s current market value is estimated at €35 million—showing just how much his stock has risen in a short amount of time.

Real Madrid’s decision to bring him back now not only makes sense financially but also fits the club’s long-standing strategy of developing young talent through strategic transfers and repurchases. If all goes as planned, Nico Paz could be one of the surprise names in Real Madrid’s squad at the Club World Cup—and possibly a key figure in the club’s future midfield.
