The summer continues to be hectic for English clubs as they look to strengthen their squads before the close of the summer transfer window. Aston Villa is no exception. After qualifying for European competitions, Unai Emery’s team do not want to be short of resources. In defence, they have had some good moments, but they have also had some bad moments that have set alarm bells ringing.

Emery knows that he cannot face another long campaign without solidity at the back. And that’s where Monchi comes in, the sporting director who has worked obsessively to find suitable profiles. With experience in LaLiga and a nose for talent, the ex-Sevilla man wants to bring in someone he trusts.

Aston Villa Want To Sign Loïc Badé

According to Fichajes, the Birmingham club are interested in Loïc Badé, Sevilla’s French centre-back who has been a regular in the Andalusian eleven. At the age of 25 and having established himself as a firm presence in the defence at the Sánchez Pizjuán, Badé has attracted the attention of several clubs.

But Villa has an ace up his sleeve: Monchi. It was this man who brought him to Nervión in 2023, first on loan and then permanently. His good performance, coupled with his physical profile and ability to anticipate, have put him on the English club’s agenda. Talks have already begun, although Sevilla’s financial situation will be key to facilitating an eventual exit.

However, would this move be the right one for Aston Villa? From a tactical point of view, it would. The team needs depth and hierarchy in defence, especially if it wants to be competitive in multiple competitions. Badé offers pace, strength in the duel and good reading of the game. He is not a media player, but a reliable one. His performance has not been the most brilliant this season. Even so, Loïc Badé is still a defender with room for growth. Emery needs centre-backs who won’t crumple on the big stage, and Badé has already shown personality in demanding matches.

Is he a good choice for them?

On the other hand, the bond between Monchi and Badé could make his adaptation easier. It would not be a blind signing. There is a mutual knowledge that could reduce the margin for error. In addition, the player seems to be willing to make the leap to the Premier League, a league that values his physical characteristics. For Sevilla, although his contract runs until 2029, economic urgency could outweigh sporting planning. An attractive offer would solve part of their financial problems and make way for a restructuring.

However, there is another reading. Villa runs the risk of depending too much on Monchi’s criteria in profiles that worked in LaLiga but might not fit the same in England. Adapting to the intensity of English football is not always automatic. And Badé, while steady, has had his ups and downs. If the price is high, the margin for error shrinks.

In that sense, the club must assess whether it is worth the risk for a defender who has not yet proven his level in the Premier League. For now, everything is proceeding cautiously. But if Villa makes this signing, it will not be a whim; it will be a calculated gamble with emotional and sporting overtones.
