At this rate, Vincent Kompany will get some playing time.

Bayern Munich has played with a relatively thin squad since the sextuple, opting to prioritize high salaries over roster depth. Predictably, injuries have ravaged the locker room for years and 2024/25 was no different. Bayern was able to persevere and win the Bundesliga but ultimately failed to make deeper runs into the Champions League and DFB-Pokal.

Bayern is planning to recoup some of the lost cup funds in the Club World Cup next month. However, Philipp Kessler is reporting that Bayern will need to find another center back (via @iMiaSanMia).

Eric Dier broke his right hand on Saturday when a Hoffenheim player accidentally stepped on it. It’s still unclear whether the Englishman has played his last game for Bayern. His new club Monaco does not want him to play at the Club World Cup. Dier himself was not against the idea of playing at the CWC at the beginning, but is now leaning more towards enjoying a longer vacation with his family before his move and settling in before the start of preseason training in Monaco. His latest injury doesn’t play into FC Bayern’s hands either.

The backline is expected to play the summer tournament without Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Itō. Kim Min-jae will be touch-and-go as he recovers from his Achilles injury and might also be on the trading block. Luckily, signs are pointing toward Dayot Upamecano being a full participant.
