Cody Gakpo says Liverpool are now close to signing a ‘good player’ who he absolutely loves

Liverpool have raced out of the blocks in terms of transfers, before the window has even officially opened.

Plenty is already happening at Anfield after Arne Slot guided the Reds to the Premier League title as early as April, with Liverpool targeting Florian Wirtz in a potential £126m move from Bayer Leverkusen.

The German is not the only Bayer Leverkusen star Liverpool are looking at – however – with Jeremie Frimpong also on the radar of Richard Hughes, Director of Football at Anfield.

Now, Cody Gakpo has shared his thoughts on the Netherlands international after the 3-2 defeat against Brighton on Monday.

Cody Gakpo hails Jeremie Frimpong as Liverpool near total agreement

Liverpool have already agreed terms with Frimpong – who has an affordable £29.5m release clause – and Fabrizio Romano claims the Dutchman has already completed two parts of his medical.

Gakpo – who plays alongside the Bayer Leverkusen No.30 for the Netherlands – was asked to comment on the situation after defeat at the Amex Stadium, and gave his fellow countryman a glowing review.

The Liverpool No.18 said: “Maybe you know more than me! Another Dutch player. He is a very good guy, I know him very well from the national team, a good player as well. So let’s see if he comes or not.”

Gakpo and Frimpong have shared a pitch on five occasions for the Netherlands, winning two and drawing two of those games.

Richard Hughes is keen to build another international connection too

Not only is Hughes keen to recruit another Dutchman in Frimpong to add to the likes of Gakpo, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch, but a Hungarian is being pursued, one who has played 23 games alongside Dominik Szoboszlai for Hungary.

Liverpool are in talks to sign Milos Kerkez in a £40m move from Bournemouth to replace Andy Robertson at left-back, although Manchester City are now trying to hijack negotiations.

Kerkez has already said Szoboszlai motivates him to better himself, so another brotherly connection could soon be instilled at Anfield if this deal materialises.
