Manchester United are hoping to kickstart their summer spending with the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Cunha has been exceptional for Wolves this season and Man United are leading the race to sign the Brazilian, who has also been on Arsenal’s radar.
Cunha was linked to Arsenal in January but the striker ultimately decided to stay and help Wolves avoid a relegation scrap — something he has done.
Now it’s believed that Cunha will leave Wolves for a new challenge, especially given that a release clause is now active in his contract.
United have been chasing Cunha’s signature for some time, and it seems as if the Brazilian will now be heading to Old Trafford.
Matheus Cunha close to agreeing personal terms with Man United
To that end, reliable journalist David Ornstein has now shared news of a positive ‘development’ in Cunha’s prospective move to United.
Reporting for NBC Sports, Ornstein claimed that the two parties had almost agreed on personal terms.
Cunha is being earmarked for a number 10 role at Old Trafford, one he’s often played for Wolves, and Ornstein said that the transfer was expected to go through.

Ornstein said: “Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“This has been a saga that has been running for a few weeks because he emerged as their top target for the number ten position and he’s also very keen on the move.
“He has a £62.5m release clause in his contract that Manchester United are prepared to activate, and they do have the funds available for that to happen.
“The development today is that they are getting closer to reaching an agreement with Cunha on personal terms and I would expect that transfer to go through in due course.”
Ruben Amorim still needs a new striker
As mentioned, Cunha is envisioned for one of the roles just behind the striker under Ruben Amorim, perhaps playing alongside Bruno Fernandes or Mason Mount at times.
However, United are still lacking an elite centre-forward to play ahead of them.
Rasmus Hojlund might leave United this summer, a young striker who is still struggling to live up to the astronomical fee the club paid Atalanta for his services.
And the more he plays, the more it becomes clear that Joshua Zirkzee is not a natural striker either — he would also prefer to operate as a number ten.
United are interested in Liam Delap from Ipswich Town but it remains to be seen if he is of the calibre to bring success back to Old Trafford.
