Exclusive: Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff are all saying the same thing about Manchester United signing £30m player

Manchester United sources have confirmed to TBR Football that they have held talks with Liam Delap in the last week.

United’s footballing department, led by Jason Wilcox, are progressing with their plans for the summer, with a deal for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha close to being agreed.

The Red Devils are also pushing hard to bring in a second attacking option, and at this stage, Delap looks the most likely player to sign at Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have both flattered to deceive under Ruben Amorim, and therefore, signing a new number nine is one of their top priorities.

Manchester United hold Liam Delap talks

Liam Delap is one of the options that Manchester United are working on, and the player himself is favouring a move to Old Trafford rather than Chelsea, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

Sources have now confirmed to TBR Football that the club’s hierarchy have held talks with Delap as they look to bring him. The Ipswich Town striker has enjoyed a solid first season in the Premier League having netted 12 goals in 35 appearances for the Tractor Boys.

Delap’s £30m release clause means that the 22-year-old represents great value for money and United are ready to make him their new number nine.

Chelsea have also been working on Delap, however, they look set for disappointment in their pursuit of the Man City academy graduate. Delap scored 27 goals in 22 matches under Maresca during their time together at City’s academy.

TBR Football has previously revealed that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool had also contacted Delap’s camp, but he now looks set to return to Manchester.

Ruben Amorim has doubts about signing Liam Delap

However, head coach Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff are not wholly convinced that the Ipswich man is the right move.

The Portuguese coach feels that a more experienced number nine figure, such as Viktor Gyokeres or Victor Osimhen, might be more appropriate to lead their line.
