As two of the biggest football clubs in the world, Liverpool and Chelsea have had their fair share of world-class players in their ranks.
Liverpool boast one of the world’s best defenders in Virgil van Dijk, while Chelsea previously had the near-unstoppable John Terry in their ranks.
Harry Kane, one of the best strikers in the world, has faced both Van Dijk and Terry in his career, along with a host of other superb centre-backs.
Kane has now selected the toughest defender he has ever played against, making his selection in a knockout-style format.
Harry Kane opts for John Terry ahead of Virgil van Dijk
Goal.com’s TikTok account has shared a video of Kane choosing the best defender out of two names at a time.
The ‘tournament’ began with Sergio Ramos against Gerard Pique, Van Dijk against Antonio Rudiger, Terry against Ruben Dias, and Giorgio Chiellini against Mats Hummels.
Kane went for Ramos, Van Dijk, Terry and Chiellini, after which he eliminated Ramos and Chiellini for a ‘final’ match-up of Van Dijk against Terry.
“That’s a tough one, they were both really difficult,” said Kane. “Let’s go John Terry.”
Brighton defenders Jean Paul van Hecke and Lewis Dunk have their say on Virgil van Dijk vs John Terry
Both Van Dijk and Terry can be considered among the best ever defenders in the world, and deciding which is better is a highly subjective endeavour.
Brighton defenders Jean Paul van Hecke and Lewis Dunk were recently asked to choose between Terry and Van Dijk.
Van Hecke spoke first and chose his Netherlands teammate, saying: “I think Van Dijk – he’s incredible.
“It feels like he’s still in his prime. He’s almost unbeatable. You can’t take him on, he’ll catch you. But when I was younger I watched John Terry.”
However, Dunk responded: “He’s who I watched growing up, so I’m picking John Terry. But [Van Dijk] is still incredible.”
