The Red Devils have a chance to salvage something from what has been a dismal season, and secure Champions League qualification for the following year.

Defeat to Chelsea saw United slump to 16th in the Premier League table, with what was their 18th loss in the competition this term.

Damning United statistics have emerged throughout the season, highlighting how far the side have fallen since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, with the club now surpassing their worst ever number of defeats in a league season.

Ahead of the Europa League final, some of the United players have issued their thoughts and feelings on the occasion via the club’s social media accounts.

Included in the post were Alejandro Garnacho, Amad, Patrick Dorgu, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof, who all gave their unique reasons as to why they were looking forward to the clash.

“I’m very, very excited,” said Garnacho. “I just want to play the game. I don’t care if I score or not. I just need to win the game and celebrate with the fans and family.”

“I think a club like United has to play Champions League every year,” explained Amad. “It’s a big club: it deserves to play in Europe every year. We know that if we win this trophy, we’ll play Champions League next season, so we will try to give the best possible to win this trophy.

“We want to win,” stated Dorgu. “We want to win a trophy. And for me, it’s my first final. So of course, it’s exciting to play your first final and hopefully to win it as well.”

“Everyone is excited,” admitted Eriksen. “We’ve been on a long run to get to the final and had some good games on the way. So yeah, it’s going to be the perfect end for our Europa League campaign to go in the final.”

“I think everyone is looking forward to it,” said Lindelof. “It’s a European final and everyone is very excited to be a part of that.”

Victory in the Europa League final is crucial for United

After such a shocking season, United will be hoping to salvage a glimmer of hope for the future, with success in the Europa League.

Although it will end the season on a high, the club are targeting bigger and better things in years to come, made clear by United’s decision not to hold a trophy parade if they win it.

Ruben Amorim is aiming for Europe next term and has pulled no punches when talking about his disappointment in the team’s performances.

Pundits such as Jamie Redknapp have praised Amorim’s honesty at United despite the club’s shocking form, highlighting his honesty as a refreshing trait to see.

The 2024/25 campaign will be one United supporters want to forget immediately, but Europa League success would go a long way to easing their pain.
