‘I just think’: Jamie Carragher tells ‘scary’ player to snub Man United and join Everton instead

Manchester United and Everton have a common transfer target ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Toffees finishing above the Red Devils in the Premier League table wouldn’t have been on anyone’s bingo card at the start of the campaign, but that is how the season has transpired.

Everton are 13th in the table after 37 games, while Manchester United are three places and six points behind David Moyes’ side.

The Merseysiders will enjoy finishing above the Red Devils, and if Jamie Carragher’s advice works now, they could sign one of United’s key targets as well.

Jamie Carragher tells Liam Delap to join Everton instead of Manchester United

Liam Delap is a wanted man ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Englishman has had a terrific season at Ipswich Town, even though the Tractor Boys have suffered relegation. He has been their best player and is almost certain to leave them this summer.

Manchester United have been keen to sign Delap and are expected to make a move for him in the coming weeks.

Many people feel he would be a great signing for the Red Devils, but Carragher has urged the striker to join a club like Everton instead of heading to Old Trafford.

He said on Sky Sports: “I don’t think Delap should go to Man United.

“I just think, like what happened to Hojlund, sometimes, I think, when you’re going from a team who have been relegated to… – I know Man United are 16th, but it’s Man United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, the eyes and ears.

“I just think that’s such a big step. I know people might say it’s from there (18th) to there (16th) in terms of league position, but Man United are a monster.

“I do (think he is an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund), but I just think the next step should be something like… Everton – you know you’re going to play every week, you’re going to be the main man, you’re going to be one of the best players in the team.

“He is the best player in the team at Ipswich, everything goes through him. Go to another club where you’re that for another two years. Then go to Man United or another team in the Champions League, or are trying to compete at that level.”

Liam Delap already knows the pressure of playing for a big club

Carragher definitely has a point there – joining a club like Manchester United when you’re a youngster is never easy, especially as a striker.

Hojlund has struggled terribly at Old Trafford, while Joshua Zirkzee hasn’t done much better either since he joined them.

That’s probably why some people inside Manchester United have doubts over Delap and whether he can do a job for them next season.

But, the 22-year-old, hailed as a player with ‘scary’ ability by Liam Rosenior (BBC), was previously at Manchester City and worked with Pep Guardiola, who is regarded by many as the best manager in the world.

Yes, he only played six times there, but he wouldn’t have received any chances if he hadn’t been able to meet Guardiola’s demands.

That should convince United to take a chance on him, but whether Delap will listen to Carragher and have second thoughts remains to be seen.
