Ryan Gravenberch has been one of Liverpool’s standout players this season, with his importance not going unnoticed.
The Dutchman has enjoyed his breakout season in a Liverpool shirt this campaign, with his midfield performances making him a mainstay in the side.
Acting as a Martin Zubimendi alternative after the Spaniard rejected a move to Anfield in the summer, the 23-year-old has featured in all bar one Premier League game this season, with Arne Slot resting him against Chelsea after having the league already wrapped up.
However, the lack of options for the Reds in this area have caused some concern, and Ryan Gravenberch’s standards have slightly dropped, causing Liverpool fans to all say the same thing.
Liverpool fans praise Ryan Gravenberch but recognise need for rest
Despite defeat to Brighton in the penultimate matchday of the season, Gravenberch looked back to his best, with Liverpool fans all putting it down to the fact that he has been allowed to rest, suggesting reinforcements in this position are needed.
On X, one fan said: “We got early season grav today. Amazing what he can do when he doesn’t have to play a full 90 twice a week.”
A third fan wrote: “Great baller, what a season from the lad and even though he got a bit knackered, cos the boss didn’t give him a rest, this shows us all the reason why…”
Another fan put: “He was outstanding tonight. Think he goes to another level if he doesn’t have to play the 6 every week.”
Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville in full agreement about Gravenberch impact
From being a bit-part player under Jurgen Klopp, to a key cog in Slot’s winning machine, Gravenberch’s performances even have Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville in agreement, with both putting him as their most improved player during Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football awards.
Carragher said: “Probably the biggest surprise this season is not just him as a player,” when giving his answer, adding: “He’s playing a completely different role… a holding midfield position that Liverpool have been trying to sign someone in for about two or three seasons.
“I don’t see anyone taking his role, I think he’s nailed that position as Liverpool’s number six.”
While Neville even went as far as comparing him to one of the Premier League’s greatest ever midfielders, saying: “I’m not going to put him in the same category as a young Patrick Vieira, but he has a little bit of a feel about him in terms of how he plays.”
