Liverpool looks as though it is wasting no time in getting its transfer business done this summer – even before the window has officially opened.
With just one game remaining in the season now, the Premier League champions look to be getting a head start on next season’s defense. Although Trent Alexander-Arnold will be departing, Jeremie Frimpong looks set to replace him at Anfield, with the Bayer Leverkusen star having already undergone the first part of his medical.
And the Reds’ next signing already looks as though it may be in the works, with Arne Slot and Richard Hughes making the most of their strong position after winning the title.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.
Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth)
Milos Kerkez is keen on a move to Liverpool as talks advance about bringing the Bournemouth left-back to Anfield, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Reds are said to be working on personal terms with the Hungarian, with negotiations already underway between the clubs on a transfer fee. Unlike Frimpong, Kerkez does not have a release clause, meaning Liverpool will have to come to an agreement with Bournemouth.
Liverpool.com says: Encouraging signs that Liverpool looks as though it is wasting no time in getting some new faces in after the title win, and getting players in positions that need strengthening.
Get Frimpong and Kerkez through the door, and then a new striker can be the next focus. It’ll make a nice change not having to go through weeks of waiting for new signings to arrive!
Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig)
Jurgen Klopp may have been contacted by Liverpool as Xavi Simons is eyed up as the Reds’ next signing, according to TBR Football.
It’s suggested that the former Liverpool boss may have been spoken to in his new role with Red Bull, while the Reds have also spoken to Ryan Gravenberch about his international teammate.
Liverpool is said to like Simons “a lot”, and feels that he could help replace some of the creativity being lost through Alexander-Arnold’s exit.
Liverpool.com says: Simons would be an interesting one, and all signs seem to point to him leaving RB Leipzig this summer. Still, a new striker makes more sense as the next priority, so hopefully Liverpool has been doing some homework on that front as well.
