The former RB Leipzig star needs to restart his career after his stint with the Blues. Can it be back in the Bundesliga?

Florian Wirtz is not the only attacking midfielder in Bayern Munich’s sights.

With Thomas Müller moving on, there is a major opening in the attacking midfield and shadow striker areas of the pitch…and Chelsea FC’s Christopher Nkunku could be at least a backup part of the summer transfer window plans.

From Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:

Bayern are still keeping an eye on Christopher Nkunku’s situation and are in contact with his management, though there’s nothing advanced at the moment. The Frenchman will definitely leave Chelsea this summer, on a permanent deal not a loan. Several other top clubs are interested [@Plettigoal]

BFW Analysis

At 27, Nkunku is firmly in veteran status and his stock should have taken a significant hit since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig two summers ago for some €60M (via transfermarkt).

But that doesn’t make him cheap, nor young by the time a four-year deal ends, and his top positions — central in attack — are well occupied at Bayern by Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane, respectively. Florian Wirtz would shift Musiala out to the left wing, but would Nkunku — who has not managed to start consistently for Chelsea in two years there — offer the same?

It seems like it would be dubious business for a club doing its best to pinch pennies.

Bayern Munich’s season is over, but we have plenty to talk about. Let’s discuss how we feel about the season and why fan expectations will be higher in 2025/26. We’ll also hit on Harry Kane’s statements, which seem to indicate that he could extend his contract, while also giving a breakdown of Bayern Munich’s big contract/transfer situations. Finally, we touch on Uli Hoeneß proving he has not lost a step with the media as he provided some commentary on the Florian Wirtz transfer saga.
