Michael Edwards has been one of the key reasons behind Liverpool’s rousing success over the past few years.
Returning to Anfield to become the Reds’ CEO, the 45-year-old has overseen their second Premier League triumph.
During his first spell at Liverpool, Michael Edwards did a phenomenal job as their sporting director as he masterminded the arrivals of players like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Alisson Becker to name a few.
Edwards was impressed by Arne Slot as he was one of many chiefs at Liverpool to say yes to his appointment during his ongoing second stint.
Since then, even rival players like Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker have praised Slot’s impact at Liverpool — which goes to show how key Michael Edwards has been to the Merseyside-based club’s ascent.
Michael Edwards wants to stay at Liverpool despite Al-Hilal interest
Seeing how well Edwards has fared at Liverpool, GiveMeSport have reported that Al-Hilal have approached the Reds CEO.
Al-Hilal hold a “firm interest” in appointing Michael Edwards to make him their most senior figure and work alongside club president Farhad bin Nafel and CEO Esteve Calzada — as the Saudi Pro League club are keen to incorporate the best possible sporting structure.
The Liverpool chief has shown a willingness towards discussing a potential role.
However, Michael Edwards is not looking to depart the Fenway Sports Group team and is content at Liverpool, and his head is also not being turned by the prospect of becoming a sporting director elsewhere.
Michael Edwards looking to add one club to multi-club model
Michael Edwards’ goal is building a multi-club model at Liverpool, similar to that of Manchester City among other sides in the world.
While FSG pulled out of talks to buy Bordeaux, they are looking to take over fellow French side Toulouse.
With Michael Edwards busy at work at Liverpool on such important matters, it is no surprise that joining Al-Hilal does not interest him currently.
