Meanwhile 2. Bundesliga’s third-place squad, Elversberg, will take on Bayern Munich loanees Paul Wanner and Frans Krätzig, along with their Heidenheim teammates. Bundesliga.com put together the details on the tie:
As is customary, the side that finishes in 16th place in the top flight takes on the third-best finishers in the second tier to decide who gets to compete in the Bundesliga when a new season begins.
This time around, the play-off is a true tale for the footballing romantics, with Frank Shmidt’s Heidenheim hosting Horst Steffen’s Elversberg.
The tie’s first-leg takes place at Heidenheim’s Voith-Arena on Thursday, 22 May, with the return encounter set for the Waldstadion Kaiserlinde the following Monday (26 May).
