Arsenal set to battle Manchester United in race to trigger ‘release clause’ of Premier League star

2 Min Read

Arsenal are said to be interested in triggering the £68 million release clause of Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze in order to strengthen their forward line.

The Gunners beat Newcastle United 1-0 on Sunday in their penultimate Premier League game of 2024-25, with the Londoners almost certain to finish in second place.

Boss Mikel Arteta‘s side have conceded seven fewer goals than champions Liverpool (33), but they have scored 18 fewer times in the league this term (63).

If Arsenal have ambitions of leapfrogging the Merseysiders to the title next season, then they must strengthen their attacking ranks.

According to GIVEMESPORT, the Gunners are seriously considering bringing Eze to the Emirates but will face competition from the likes of Manchester United this summer.

What will Eze add to Arsenal?

Eze was the star of the FA Cup final on Saturday when Crystal Palace beat Manchester City at Wembley, scoring the only goal of the game.

The Englishman has arguably been the Eagles’ best player this season, with the attacker scoring 14 goals while registering a further 11 assists for his team in all competitions.

His ability as a creator would be of significant benefit to Arsenal, who have at times struggled to generate chances for their forwards.

The 26-year-old would likely come into the team on the left side of a front three, competing with Gabriel Martinelli for a place in the XI.

However, it should be noted that Eze has excelled when playing behind Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is an imposing central striker capable of linking play under pressure.

If Arsenal sign Eze to play on the left, then perhaps signing a number nine such as Viktor Gyokeres would get the best out of the playmaker, and help the team finally win the Premier League title.
