Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has claimed that Jeremie Frimpong could end up playing on the left wing when he arrives in the Premier League from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold heading to Real Madrid on a free transfer, Liverpool needs extra depth at full-back. Conor Bradley is central to Arne Slot’s plans but Frimpong, with a $39 million (£30 million) release clause will be another strong option.
Hamann, though, feels that Frimpong is so attacking that he is better suited to playing in the front three. And with Mohamed Salah playing on the right, the German has suggested Frimpong could end up on the left.
“If Arne Slot decides that Conor Bradley should be his first choice, which is likely, there’s a possibility that Jeremie Frimpong plays a bit further forward,” Hamann told Betting Lounge.
“He plays on the right-hand side, but obviously, Salah occupies that position. You can even use him on the left because he’s got a lot of pace.
“I think they’ve got the right-back position well covered now and Conor Bradley has done ever so well, he’s signed a new contract. But next season, there might be 55 games including internationals if Liverpool go deep in competitions.

“I think you need two players for every position. I think with these two, they’re different players, but I think it’s well covered now.”
Frimpong completed the first part of his medical over the weekend, and Liverpool.com understands he was set for a second part before heading off on holiday. The Dutchman is set to pen a five-year contract and return to England, having played for Manchester City as a child.
“Another Dutch one, well English as well you know?,” Cody Gakpo told reporters at Brighton on Monday. “He is a very good guy, I know him very well from the national team, a good player as well. So let’s see if he comes or not.”
Arne Slot was also asked about Frimpong during his post-match interview on Sky Sports. But he was giving nothing away.

“I think what we all know is the moment we announce it, that is the moment to talk about it, in general,” the Liverpool head coach said. “We haven’t announced anything, so no need to talk about it.”
Frimpong does indeed set to become Liverpool’s first signing of the summer, with a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili already agreed.
Frimpong is expected to head on holiday after the Bundesliga season came to an end last weekend. He could officially become a Liverpool player once the summer transfer window opens on June 1.
Liverpool.com says: Frimpong is a very different player to Alexander-Arnold but Slot won’t use him in the same way. That’s not to say that he will be playing on the left wing, though! That would be an interesting move.
