TBR Football can exclusively reveal that despite Liverpool showing an interest in signing Florian Wirtz, Bayern Munich are confident about landing the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.
Liverpool are huge fans of Wirtz but so are Bayern, who have a habit of plucking the best German players from other Bundesliga clubs and signing them.
Despite Vincent Kompany’s side seemingly being the dream club for any German player to eventually play for, Liverpool have held talks to sign Wirtz as well.
The Reds have a history of signing players from the Bundesliga as well, from Roberto Firmino to Ibrahima Konate amongst many.
But it could argued that if Arne Slot’s side managed to sign Florian Wirtz, he would the biggest name they have signed from the German top-flight.
Bayern Munich confident of beating Liverpool to Florian Wirtz due to Jamal Musiala factor
However, TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has been notified that a key reason why Bayern believe they have the upper hand over Liverpool in the race to sign Wirtz is due to his relationship with Jamal Musiala.
As a result, Wirtz could be set to join Bayern — as the prospect of playing alongside the former Chelsea wonderkid, who signed a contract with the Bavarians until 2030 appeals to the Leverkusen technician.
The 21-year-old has agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich as well — and it is important to consider that for the German national team, his record with Musiala is impressive to say the least.

Graeme Bailey further explained: “I have spoken to German sources close to the deal and they have told me that Bayern Munich are calm about the situation and remain confident that he will be a Bayern player. They are not shocked there is interest from elsewhere but they have been talking to the player for months and in recent weeks believe an agreement is in place.”
“It would be a major shock to Bayern if he joined another club, Bayern’s current hierarchy have been brilliant in 2025 in getting deals done. [Alphonso] Davies, [Joshua] Kimmich and Musiala have all signed when it looked like they wouldn’t and now they think Wirtz is next.”
Liverpool are not pressuring Wirtz to sign for them by making a quick decision, much like Bayern, who are willing to wait until 2026 if he decides to stay at Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
“Manchester City were desperate to land Wirtz but have now accepted that he is heading to Munich. Liverpool do have an interest in Wirtz but would only be willing to try and land the player – if he showed and highlighted his desire to move to England ahead of Munich. Bayern for their part are waiting on Wirtz to finalise his exit with Bayer and have indicated that they would be willing to wait until 2026 to strike a deal if they had to, although they would rather he joined this summer.”
How Liverpool internally feel about their chances of signing Wirtz
Liverpool do not expect to sign Wirtz, despite their interest as they believe it is likely that the player either signs for Bayern or stays at Bayer Leverkusen.
Journalist David Lynch explained: “It is very much my understanding that he is a player who is liked and that Liverpool would quite like to do a deal for if it was possible. Now, expectations are kind of being played down around Liverpool at the moment as they’re very much positioning this that their expectation is the player wants to stay in Germany either with Bayer Leverkusen for maybe another season or to join Bayern Munich.”
“They aren’t playing down the idea that if he were to come onto the market and want to move to England this summer they would absolutely be in there and try to put a deal together.”
