TBR Football can exclusively confirm what sources close to AS Roma are saying about the Italian club’s interest in Nuno Espirito Santo.
Nottingham Forest have enjoyed a remarkable campaign under Nuno Espirito Santo and they remain in the picture for a spot in next season’s Champions League.
However, speculation has begun doing the rounds regarding Nuno’s future in recent days.
Meanwhile, Roma are set to be on the lookout for a new head coach as Claudio Ranieri prepares to retire from management at the end of the season.
Roma have made contact with Nuno Espirito Santo’s camp
Sources have confirmed to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey that Roma have ‘an interest’ in the Nottingham Forest boss.
We are told that, whilst Roma have not offered terms to Nuno, they have touched base with his people.
Their sporting chief Florent Ghisolfi is leading the hunt for the Friedkin Group and they are fans of Nuno.
Sources close to the Italian club have told us: “There is an interest, they really appreciate the job he has done in Nottingham.”
TBR Football understands that Forest have played down reports that Nuno could walk away from the club this summer.
However, with only one year left on his contract and no fresh deal agreed – it is far from certain that he remains in charge at this point.
The Saudi Pro League also have an interest in Nuno, we can confirm.
What Nottingham Forest said about the exchange between Evangelos Marinakis and Nuno Espirito Santo after Leicester draw
After the 2-2 Premier League draw with Leicester City earlier in May, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was spotted in a heated exchange with Nuno.
However, Forest played down the incident and denied that it was a “confrontation”.
The club said the incident was because of Marinakis’ frustration that striker Taiwo Awoniyi had continued to play after an 88th-minute injury which subsequently required surgery on Monday night.
The club added that Marinakis’ actions were because of his “deep care, responsibility, and emotional investment,” in the player and the club.
“The truth of the matter is there was no confrontation, with Nuno or with others, either on the pitch or inside the stadium,” the club wrote in a statement.
“There was only shared frustration between all of us that the medical team should never have allowed the player to continue.
“We urge former coaches and players, and other public figures in the game, to resist the urge to rush to judgement and fake news online, especially when they do not have the full facts and context.”
