Following Jhon Duran’s Saudi Arabia move in January, Aston Villa are now eyeing attacking replacements this summer.
It’s been another strong campaign for Unai Emery’s side, who currently sit sixth in the Premier League.
Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth last night means that Aston Villa will go into the final day needing a win and other results to go their way, in order to secure Champions League football for the 2025/26 season.
But as the club looks to solidify their status as regular members of the top European competitions, efforts are being made to bolster their squad.
With Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio officially returning to their parent clubs after Sunday’s final day meeting with Manchester United, Villa are now reportedly turning to Feyenoord for additional forward threat.
Aston Villa in talks for Zepiqueno Redmond
The West Midlands side are reportedly “leading the race” to sign 18-year-old Feyenoord prospect, Zepiqueno Redmond.
Standing at six feet tall, Redmond has two goals in three KNVB Cup appearances for Feyenoord this season, with a brace against second-tier MVV Maastricht.
Redmond made his Champions League debut in February, starting up front at the San Siro in a 1-0 loss to AC Milan. In November, the Dutchman also became the youngest starting debutant in the Eredivisie for Feyenoord since Orkun Kokcu in 2018.
Robin Van Persie was appointed as Feyenoord manager on the 23rd February this year, so Redmond will have had a fantastic example to watch and learn from in training.
Emery’s side have been active in the planning stages of the summer transfer window, with reports last month stating that Villa want to sign Sverre Nypan.
And with whisperings of Chelsea planning a bid to sign Morgan Rogers, further acquisitions may well be required.
But they are not alone in their pursuit of young Zepiqueno Redmond. As stated by Fabrizio Romano, there is interest from Italy as well as the UK.
Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth and AC Milan have all been credited with an interest, but Feyenoord’s manager is hoping that Redmond will remain with this season’s third-placed Eredivisie side.
Van Persie keen to keep Redmond among interest from Europe
Speaking to Dutch outlet Voetbal, the former Manchester United and Arsenal striker said:
“I hope that Zeppi extends his contract with us. There is quite a long contact about that between his agent and Feyenoord. So our position remains the same. We hope that he chooses us.”
Such words from a Premier League great are enough to be excited about Redmond’s potential.
Will we be seeing him in claret and blue next year?
