Tottenham have salvaged the 2024/25 campaign with a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final.
A goal from Brennan Johnson in the 42nd minute – which may well end up going down as an own goal by Luke Shaw – secured a first trophy since 2008 for Spurs, and also a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season.
It was also a 150th victory in European football for the north Londoners.
FIRST BLOOD SPURS! ⚽️
It’s scrappy but they won’t care! Brennan Johnson claims it as he takes full advantage of carnage in the box to put Spurs ahead in the Europa League Final 🤩

Furthermore, Tottenham have also secured a welcome chunk of prize money after beating Manchester United.
Tottenham bank over £10m after Europa League win
Daniel Levy will be pleased to hear Spurs have banked over £10m after defeating the Red Devils in Bilbao.
UEFA have awarded Tottenham a sum of £10.95m for winning the Europa League, which is sure to help the north Londoners out in the upcoming transfer window, where reinforcements are still needed after a tough season, involving a plethora of injury problems.
TBR Football understand Spurs are ready to sign Mathys Tel permanently – but hope to reduce the £45m price tag – so perhaps this £10.95m could be put towards buying the Frenchman.
Tottenham also want Angel Gomes – who is leaving Lille on a free – so this cash could also help to pay the England international’s wages.
How much did Manchester United make in prize money?
As a result of finishing runner-up to Tottenham, Ruben Amorim has helped to add £5.9m to the accounts at Old Trafford.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been cutting costs at Manchester United, even cancelling the Christmas party, so the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of INEOS will surely welcome that cash, despite the bitter disappointment of losing to Tottenham in Bilbao.
Having said that, the amount of revenue Manchester United will lose from failing to qualify for any European competition next season will hit hard, and could see fewer new signings arrive in the summer than we would have in the event of Amorim winning the Europa League.
