Man City’s squad is stacked with high-quality talent and competition for places is strong, although Jamie Redknapp believes one player is destined for greatness next season.
It has been a tough season for Pep Guardiola’s side and one that has seen Manchester City go without a major trophy for the first time in eight years.
Serious injuries to key players have not helped, including Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, with Man City eyeing up reinforcements already ahead of the new season to try and regain their place at the top of English football.
However, some of their existing attacking options are second to none, with one in particular tipped to hit new heights next season.
Jamie Redknapp believes Omar Marmoush will go to another level
The Egyptian may have only joined in January, but Omar Marmoush already has seven goals and two assists in the league, with Jamie Redknapp believing that he is going to be one of Man City’s standout players next season.
Speaking on Sky Sports after their game against Bournemouth, he said: “He’s had a really good start to his Manchester City career and not many players come in and hit the ground running like he has, but next year he is going to be an absolute star.
“He is going to get a bundle of goals and assists, especially when they get Rodri back in that midfield.”
After signing from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59m, big things were expected of the 26-year-old and he is certainly living up to the hype, although he faces stiff competition for a place in the side with one of the world’s best.
How do Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush compare?
Fighting for a place in the team with Erling Haaland is near-impossible as he is one of Europe’s deadliest finishers, although Marmoush has done a good job keeping him on his toes.
Stats in the 2024/25 Season | Erling Haaland | Omar Marmoush |
Appearances | 43 | 47 |
Goals | 30 | 28 |
Assists | 4 | 17 |
Shooting Accuracy (%) | 64.44 | 51.61 |
Big Chances Missed | 21 | 12 |
Across the entire season, including Marmoush’s time in the Bundesliga, the Egyptian has kept pace with Haaland, who surprisingly has interest from Barcelona, and the statistics are very even, although it is clear that they could be a deadly pair with the 26-year-old’s creative ability, something the Norwegian will be licking his lips at.
If Guardiola manages to get the signings he wants to strengthen his side, Man City will be a very serious contender for the league again and it will be no surprise to see Redknapp’s claim come true.
