Tottenham Hotspur fans will be celebrating long into the night after their club won the Europa League at Manchester United’s expense.

Tottenham have won their first major trophy since 2008 and their first European trophy since 1984 as they got the better of the Red Devils in Bilbao.

Brennan Johnson was the hero for Spurs, netting the only goal of the Europa League final not long before the end of the first half.

Micky van de Ven also helped Tottenham get over the line with his heroic goalline clearance that left fans and neutrals stunned.

Johnson spoke about Ange Postecoglou after the game amid uncertainty over the Tottenham manager’s future.

Brennan Johnson thanks Ange Postecoglou for trusting Tottenham players

Johnson was one of many who touched upon Postecoglou’s famous comments about winning in his second season.

The Wales international suggested Tottenham’s win was a “mic drop” for Postecoglou and thanked his manager for the trust he has placed in him and his players.

“Listen, he’s done his job, he says he wins in his second year and he has,” Johnson told TNT Sports.

“I think if there’s ever time for a mic drop I think it’s now, so I’m looking forward to his interview, but I can’t thank the manager enough for how much trust he’s had in us.

“Some of the performances this season as I said haven’t been good enough, especially in the Europa League he has a really good way of getting everyone up for it and today it showed.”

Mohamed Salah also mentioned Postecoglou’s ‘second-season trophy’ comments just after the game.

What does the future hold for Ange Postecoglou?

Ahead of the game, there were some who suggested Postecoglou could yet be sacked – or should leave – even if Tottenham won the Europa League.

Jamie O’Hara claimed Tottenham would still sack Postecoglou, while Anton Ferdinand said Postecoglou should leave Spurs of his own volition.

However, now that it has actually happened, and all the emotion that comes with it, surely that will need to be reassessed.

However, everyone at Tottenham will surely think that they’re on the right path to improve in the Premier League now they’ve made history.

This would mean giving Postecoglou more time in the job – and the Australian is certainly keen on staying put.

“I don’t feel like I’ve completed the job,” he told TNT Sports after the game. “We’re building.

“The moment I accepted the role I had one thing in my head, win something. We’ve done that now and I want to build on it.”
