Liverpool transfer news as 7 ‘could leave’ and Arne Slot hatches $113M plan for striker

3 Min Read

Arne Slot admitted last week that he is already thinking more about transfers than the remaining Premier League fixtures.

In a sense, that’s obvious. The points tally in the last three games has dropped off, with just one collected since that title-clinching victory over Tottenham Hotspur. The players have enjoyed breaks abroad in each of the last two weeks, while the number of changes has resulted in a team matching fluidity and familiarity.

As Slot turns his attention to the market, there are no shortage of stories already. Liverpool is closing in on a move for Jeremie Frimpong, making tentative enquiries into the availability of Florian Wirtz, and reportedly holding talks with the representatives of Milos Kerkez.

Of course, arrivals mean departures are inevitable. The Athletic’s David Ornstein has shared an update on which Liverpool players could be on their way out of the club, in addition to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“There could be other departures from Anfield this summer,” Ornstein told NBC Sport. “The likes of Darwin Nunez, Jarell Quansah, Harvey Elliott and possibly Caoimhin Kelleher as well in goal. And there’s some uncertainly around the likes of Luis Diaz, of Ibrahima Konate going into the last 12 months of his contract, and Kostas Tsimikas.”

Joe Gomez, Wataru Endo, and Diogo Jota have also been mentioned as players who could leave this summer, as Slot reshapes the squad.

Should Jota or Nunez leave, it will mean Liverpool is lacking in the No. 9 area. While the pair haven’t exactly impressed this season, having them as back-up is an option Slot has heavily relied on.

Liverpool could reportedly make a bid for Benjamin Sesko this summer

Targeting a new striker feels like a vital component of the summer window, even if a different name is thrown out every day. Alexander Isak is the one most clubs in Europe want, but Newcastle United’s asking price could be too steep.

Hugo Ekitike, Victor Osimhen, Julian Alvarez and Liam Delap have been mooted, while Benjamin Sesko continues to crop up in reports.

According to DaveOCKOP, he could be the answer to Slot’s problems. RB Leipzig value the forward at €100 million ($113M/£84M), but Liverpool is hopeful of getting the price down but has not yet entered into negotiations. The funds from Nunez’s sale could be used to help fund that particular transfer, with Sesko “keen” to join Liverpool.

The Slovenian has scored 21 this season, but Leipzig’s inability to secure a European spot could force the Bundesliga club into an unwanted sale.
