Micah Richards had some honest thoughts on the Belgian’s departure ahead of the club’s summer of change, and fans could not agree more.
After a decade at the club, Kevin De Bruyne’s departure marks the end of an era and a changing of the tides as Manchester City look to get back to the top after a disappointing campaign.
Despite slowing down at the age of 33, Micah Richards believes the playmaker still has a lot to give and should have stayed, saying: “I think he could have definitely done one more year, but maybe him and the club thought it was the right time to go. Personally, I would have loved him to stay because I think he can still deliver at the highest level.”
The former Man City right-back was not alone with his claim as many fans were in total agreement, with his legacy at the club clear to see.

Although a poor season by his standards, De Bruyne has shown glimpses of his best and, like Richards said, still has a lot to give, something the fans were in total agreement of.
Writing on X, one fan put: “Legends don’t fade, they adapt. KDB still has the vision, the class, and the fire — trust Micah on this one!”
A third fan put: “Feel like he’s going to go to Bayern. Would be a perfect replacement with Muller leaving, definitely still capable of performing at an elite level and would of course give him the opportunity to work under Kompany who knows him better than anyone.
Another fan added: “100% agree!”
Who will be Kevin De Bruyne’s next club?
Since announcing his departure, the 33-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs, with the most interest coming from the Saudi Pro League and the MLS as his illustrious career is coming to an end.
Liverpool were also linked with De Bruyne, but he will likely opt for a move abroad out of respect for his current club and embrace a new challenge outside of England.
Either way, the Belgian is one of the most gifted players the league has ever seen and it is no surprise the City fans are gutted to see him leave, although a replacement for De Bruyne still needs to be found.
